Get A Mouth Guard
Tooth grinding at night wears down enamel. You might not know you are doing this, oftentimes your partner will tell you if they hear you grinding your teeth at night, in which case it is a good idea to get a mouth guard. This will protect your jaw, and teeth, lessening any sensitivity or jaw soreness that you feel.
Avoid Extreme Temperature Drinks
Drinks that are too cold or too hot can shock the nerves in your teeth, which is what causes the sharp, searing pain you feel if you have hot tea or a cold icy drink. Try to have milder temperature drinks, which won’t cause your nerves to react.
Don’t Brush So Hard
Brushing too hard or using a toothbrush that has hard bristles can wear down the enamel on your teeth. It exposes dentin, one of the most innermost components that make up your teeth, and causes the sensitivity you feel. It can also cause gum recession over time which oftentimes requires surgery if the roots of the teeth become exposed.
Foods like lemons and apple cider vinegar are still acidic while in the mouth, although lemons become alkaline in the body. Whenever you intake highly acidic foods or drinks, rinse your mouth right after to wash it away and avoid the breakdown of enamel.
Use a Desensitizing Toothpaste
If brushing with it doesn’t provide enough relief, try rubbing it on the exposed roots of your teeth before bed.
